Termites’ breeding season starts approximately from March to October every year. Flying termites (alates) will fly away from their mature nest in these few months to find their partners and building a new territory.
Subterranean termite is the most common species in Hong Kong. They mainly infested inside the foundation area of a building and keep foraging anywhere at anytime. From time to time, they use their saliva and excretions to build mud tubes which protect them from predators and maintain the optimum temperature and humidity. Therefore, it is possible for the place to have termite infestation once dropped wings or mud tubes were found.
